In 2004, Chile legislated on the issue of complementary or alternative medicine.

Decree No. 42 of 2004 (published on 06/17/2005) is the Regulation relating to the exercise of alternative medical practices as auxiliary health professions and the premises in which they are exercised. The law is particularly clear regarding the obligations of practitioners, including Reiki practitioners.

The number of independent Reiki practitioners is large.
